About - What's a Gal Friday anyway?
Hi! I'm Pamela and I'm so glad you stopped in!
According to Google, the Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the term “Girl Friday" or "Gal Friday," first used in 1928. to describe “a woman who does many different jobs in an office.” The definition in the Urban Dictionary is more expansive, dubbing a “Girl Friday” as a “go-to girl” or “a female who acts as a 'jack of all trades and is capable.
I like to think of myself as a 'Jane of all trades,' as I've worn many hats in my lifetime, including most recently mid-lifer college student! That's right, post-Covid, I relocated back home to Lexington, after a 21 year residency in Louisville and its suburbs of Shelby County. I graduated UK December 2022 with a degree in Integrated Strategic Communication. Before returning to college, I worked a decade at Anthem BCBS in the Sales and Marketing Department, "baby-retired" to raise my three amazing children, studied in culinary school and was a practicing personal chef and executive chef in a small town farm to table restaurant, doing the chef thing while developing and coordinating events. both large and small. For the years leading up to the Covid Pandemic, I was the Director of the Kentucky Travel Guide, a long established state travel booklet that circulated over 250,000 copies each year. Unfortunately, KTG was a "Covid-Casualty" and did not survive the Pandemic.
During Covid, I started doing odd jobs for people that didn't want to get out including errands, shopping, mostly grocery, and meal prep because everything else was shut down and I was waiting to start back at UK. While I currently do freelance work for my Marketing/PR hat, helping others feeds my soul. It gives me great joy to know that I've been able to make someone else a little less stressed and elevate their quality of life by taking over the dirty jobs (to them) and giving them a little or a lot of peace of mind!
